Facebook is getting more viral everyday and its one of the biggest competitor to google now.Even some report says facebook drives more traffic than google.Optimized news feed settings in facebook lets us to to reach the targeted people in facebook.

As soon as you logged into facebook, you will be redirected to your ‘home’ section in facebook which will display the news feeds.By watching news feeds you are able to know what’s your friends are doing around in facebook.News feeds has two sub-sections :

1.Top News

2.Most recent

Top news section displays the most popular updates from your friends, applications and the pages in which you joined as a fan. This can be determined by edge rank (an facebook algorithm for news feed optimization in facebook).I haven’t explained about edge rank in this post as there are more articles available in the blogosphere about it.

In the top news section, you are able to hide updates from specific users and fan pages. Now coming to the point.Targeted networking with your friends in facebook helps you to consume time and lets you to watch their updates without any disturbance. For example, consider you have 2000 friends in facebook.Of them, 500 are your targeted friends. Now,optimized news feed settings lets you to track the updates of 500 targeted friends exactly in such a way you wish and you have no need to delete your non-targeted friends in facebook.

Remove the non-targeted friends from your news feed. You are able to do this by just clicking the X button when you mouseover a specific person in the news feed.

Remove the specific fan pages from which you dont want to receive updates. You have no need to unlike the specific fan pages. If you want to add the specific update of a person or page, then go to the end of the page.Click ‘Edit options’.You can get a list of friends and pages which are hidden from your news feed.Choose the specific person or page, then click ‘Add to news feed’ to receive the updates from them again.

By doing this simple optimization in your news feed settings,You will be able to easily track what your targeted contacts are doing in facebook.

Most recent section displays the live updates of your facebook friends and pages in the news feed. You are able to adjust the settings to get specific updates from the contacts and pages you are looking for.Now go to the end of the page, then click the ‘Edit options’ to adjust the settings. You can see three options there :

  • Hide
  • Number of friends

Type your non-targeted friend’s name or the specific page name in the ‘Hide’ field to hide the updates from them. You can able to select multiple friends and pages in this list to hide.

Type your targeted friend’s name in the ‘Show more’ field to receive most of their updates in your news feed.

In the number of friends field,Select how many number of friend’s updates that you want to receive in the live feed.Default is set to 250.You can adjust this number as you wish.Highering the number lets you to get more new updates often in your news feed,so select the number based on how many contacts you have in facebook.Choose the numbering especially based on the number of targeted contacts you have.

[..YouTube..] Top News is a pre-selected wall-feed, censored if you will, selection. Nobody has yet found out according to exactly which criteria Facebook does this selection. They are suspiciously vage about it. It opens doors to all kinds of manipulations Facebook can perform. Facebook can literally control what people get to read and what not, on an individual basis.
